The Fret Slotter Designer
Tony Wright began his working life in 1972 as an apprentice
engineer going on to become a fully qualified design engineer
in machine design and jig and tool design. He has worked on a
variety of aerospace and other defence projects. But perhaps
his only quirky claim to fame is that he designed the new Curly-Wurly
machine for the Cadbury chocolate company in 1982. His career
took a new turn in 1986 when he became a technology school teacher
and went on to become a lecturer in three-dimensional design
at Dudley College of Technology were he became head of department
and taught students to Higher National Diploma level. He has
now retired from education and is amazingly employed as an assistant
pastor of a church!
Tony has been a musician since he was 15
years old starting with guitar and moving on to bass. His guitar
making took off when he was asked to play with a professional
band. Realising his instrument wasn’t up to spec, he
went to purchase a good instrument. But this proved prohibitive
because prices were in the thousands of pounds for the instrument
he wanted. It was then he decided to put his musician, design
and craft skills together and build his first instrument; Necx
Guitars was born. Tony has been repairing and building high
quality instruments for about 15years. Now he is bringing his
expertise in tooling design to the guitar making market under
the banner of Necx Products.
The first products that has come out of this guitar
playing and making experience is The
Universal Fret Slotter.
